Bluetooth Audio Streaming Distortion Issues with the KIN ONE

Postby EnzoTen » Mon May 17, 2010 12:06 pm

I successfully connected my Kin ONE to my Zune account so I enjoying my Zune Pass, but there is a huge disappointment. I recently got a Creative ZiiSound D5 and it works beautifully with several different audio streaming bluetooth devices such as the HTC Incredible, Samsung P3, Sony Walkman, ect.. However, the KIN ONE has some serious issues with streaming audio to the point of being unlistenable. And i dont mean unlistenable as an audio snob, its unlistenable to everyone in that there is a horrible high pitched distortion. What it sounds like to me is a very low bitrate or some sort of audio compression issue.

Now im under the assumption that this can be fixed with a software update adding a better piece of code to properly stream bluetooth audio. For instance a better bluetooth driver? I am not extremely familiar with Bluetooth audio other than superficially testing devices, but if there anyone familar and you could add some light to the subject, that would be great.

Caveat: i have only tried this with the Creative ZiiSound D5, but i tend to think the D5 is not the issue since everything else works great with the D5.

Doesnt bluetooth uses 2.4ghz same frequency as some wireless telephones and wireless routers? because maybe that affects it.

It doesnt sound like an interference problem, its sound like more of a low bit rate issue... it sounds "overly digital" or very "pixelated" if that makes sense.

Indeed, but that seems to be changing. I recently reviewed the Creative ZiiSound D5 and I was very impressed with the Bluetooth Audio on it. It sounded like it was connected with wires. This has to do with an audio codec called APT-X. After seeing how well Bluetooth CAN work, i would love to see more of this. Check out my ZiiSound D5 review if you are interested.

How important is bluetooth capability in a laptop? I'm in the market of getting a new laptop, and I've been building one with Dell because they are having a good deal. But I'm wondering should I put in bluetooth capability? All I have right now is a cell phone that uses it, and I haven't used anything else with bluetooth yet. Is bluetooth going to be something extremely important in the near future (3-4 years), that I should just fork the money over for it?
